Got a phone call thursday from the local supermarket saying they had my mum there and she had just had her bag stolen. So off we went to get her. Obviously she was upset - she will be 83 on tuesday - and cross with herself for letting go of it just for a second as she turned to look at some veg. Of course when she turned back it was gone from her trolley. The supermarket was good and phoned us and the bank to stop her cards and then let her have her shopping for free. As her keys and address was also in her bag she was worried about that night, but we had a friend from church who knew about locks and he came and changed them all straight away. Thankfully as her short term memory is fading fast she cannot remember all she had that was personal to her in the bag to fret about it. My husband only got 1 1/2 hours sleep that night before going to work (he is nights) and my sister had to take the next day off work to take mum to the bank, police etc. Now we have to get a new bus pass tomorrow, but she is worried that they will be waiting for her in town as they have her old one with her photo on. No amount of telling her they are not interested in her only the money is going to change that. Mum only goes out once a week to her club then on to the supermarket to get some food and a taxi home, we hope this doesn't put her off of going out altogether.
You know the little sounds that come up with the i m profiles, everytime someone presumably uses their i m. Well....... there is a man's voice that comes up saying 'mum'. It sounds just like my son. So much so that when i first heard it my stomach turned over. It was like my son was calling me and needed me and i couldn't get to him to help him. I have got used to it now but i still find myself answering sometimes and saying, yea, what do you want? or Hi!.
How silly am i? :-)
Well i am about to start looking on here for a holiday once again. I started a long while ago and then our holiday dates got muddled and now i am behind so i hope i can find something. It does seem to take a long while even with the internet going through pages and pages looking for something.
So, wish me luck.

No you are not silly, I keep thinking it is Kevin calling me and he has not lived here for over 4 years!! Your poor Mum, she must be absoloutely terrified, I know I would be and I am 30yrs her Junior!! I have had rings stolen off me in a car park, but I was lucky cos I found the exact rings on a market stall 1yr later, needless to say the police were called and it was all dealt with amicably.....the guy had acquired them quite legitamately not realising they had been originally stolen! Hope they catch the swine/s that did it!

Hi oh it is disgusting isn't it the way people just think they can take advantage of anyone just turning there eye to something, without having to steal our belongings.Let alone a person of your Mums age. This makes me so angry I cannot explain how much.I can relate to your mum and her imagining alsorts I was the same when my home was burgled one evening.I only went out to tea one evening for a couple of hours. No way after that could I live in that home.I just had to sell up and move.I couldn't sleep for one hour let alone one night. How kind of the supermarket to let mum have her shop free and so they should they can afford to.I am so happy she was able to get the locks changed.I hope they find out who the culprit was.As for the sound you mention. You have taken the words from my mouth as it sounds just like my son too.I do know where and what this is and who it comes from, but best not mention in my comment LOL.Because I live away from my family I quite enjoy the sound as it brings my son closer LOL in a sence, daft as it may sound LOL.Take Care have a nice evening.Gao Bless

How awful this happened to your mum. Words fail me about the pig that took her bag. I hope she will still feel ok about going out and about alone. Hugs. Terry x
That wasn't nice to happen to your mum, Jenny. Hope all gets sorted soon.
Praising God your mum was alright!! I know how easily they can be frightened, and then to have something like this. I'll be praying God gives her the strength and courage to continue her life as normal. - Barbara
I couldn't help but come back and comment on the differences in language!
You say mum - here we say Mama
You say bag - here we say purse
You say trolley - we say shopping cart
You say holiday - we say vacation.
:o) - Barbara
So sorry to hear this about your mother`s purse being stolen. How can people be so cruel?
Any luck finding a spot to holiday at?
Penny
