Over the last week or so there has been a gang of teenagers hanging around my house and garden. There has been fighting, argueing, shouting, running around and jumping. The good thing is that it will all end in the next few months. Last years baby magpies have become teenagers and they are doing what all teenagers do.
There are about a dozen of them constantly doing all of the things mentioned above. What a noise they can make.
The funniest thing i saw the other day was when one was walking along and suddenly jumped up in the air about two and a half feet, land and then carry on walking again.
At the bottom of my garden i have a large wonderful oak tree that is always full of life. This time of year the wood pigeons use it for their courting along with the collared doves. They tend to stick to the middle of the tree. The above mentioned maggies are constantly in and out as they cannot keep still at the moment. Crows like to perch at the very top and look out at the world and blue tits, great tits and woodpeckers use it too. Best of all is when you watch the squirrels running up and down playing and argueing with the MAGPIES.
The oak tree is one of the last trees to get its leaves so i have a good view of everything happening in it right up till late spring. Blackbirds sing their songs from its branches and my grandson climbs it to the horror of his mum as he watches the world.
It keeps the rain off the kids toys and next doors shed. It gives the infants from the next door school shade when they are outdoors in summer and provides them with leaves, nuts and insects to study. It is a whole universe, complete in itself. It does not need me to exist but i would a lesser person without it.
I LOVE MY OAK TREE!!!

Everyone should have at least one amazing old tree like that in thier life!! I have never seen real magpies, only the ones in the cartoons. - Barbara
I was glad to see that the teenagers that had overrun your neighborhood were the magpies. How cute, I never thought of them as teens. The description of your old oak is wonderful. I can just picture it and would love it too! 'On Ya' - ma
Unfortunately these magpies will become adults in the summer and start to steal the baby birds from the nests.

When I had a garden,I used to get very angry with the magpies. They would be very unkind to the other birds which gave me much interest when they came along. They would swoop down from wherever and chase them off.Be it he bird table or the birdbath or whatever,As if to say this is my plot go away LOL.Very greedy they were too.Loved how you named the eoung ones teenagers LOL!!Any trees are wonderful and I had a plot of spare land which was private over the garden wall surrounded with very old trees all of a differant species. It was amazing to watch all differant kinds of birds antics in them.Enjoy your "OLD OAK TREE" I miss my trees and garden and miss the birds so much.I have my Grandson this week so grabbing the moments to comment when I can LOL!!Take Care God Bless.
